Music is an inbuilt part of human nature, and is brought to life at Moss Hey Primary. Moss Hey offers a wide range of musical experiences for all our pupils. We employ a specialist music teacher, Miss Danielle Mallas, who works with all of our classes, developing musical skills through singing, instrumental work and notation.
Our music curriculum develops skills and encourages involvement and enjoyment.
Our Foundation Stage class enjoys singing together and exploring the world of sound in nature. As they move through Key Stage One our pupils develop their listening skills, identify pitch and create musical scores. Year Three is full of animal magic, with the children creating descriptive music and experimenting with pattern. Year Four climb up the Pentatonic Scale, exploring sound and building confidence through singing games. Rhythm and pulse is covered in Year 5, with an in depth exploration of sound and sound sources. Our oldest pupils create their own songs, work together on compositions, and analyse musical processes.
There are many peripatetic music teachers who come in to teach our pupils: guitar, keyboard, saxophone, trumpet, cornet, flute, clarinet, drums and percussion. Our pupils achieve well in music exams.
There is a flourishing band which practices each week before school, as well as a choir – the Moss Hey Voices.
The musical talents of the pupils are celebrated through end of term concerts, as well as through performances within the local community.
